Our company boasts a history spanning a century: in 1929, in fact, my grandmother obtained from the Podestà Alfonso Sabatini, the authorization for the production and sale of Cirò wine.

Since then, the love for the land, for wine and for traditions has led the members of my family to devote themselves with passion, care and attention to this fascinating activity.

In 1961 my father Umberto, with the important collaboration of my mother, began to take the first steps towards the bottling of the "Pregiato Cirò" wine and at the end of the 70s I too, now of age, became an active part of the 'agency.

Today, flanked by my wife, Gemma Mastroianni and my daughters, I represent an ideal bridge between the tradition of my grandparents and innovation and the future.

The history of Cirò

The history of Cirò wine has its roots in the mists of time. According to the most reliable sources  it seems that the Greek colonists, landing on the Calabrian coasts, were struck by the extension of the territories dedicated to the cultivation of the vine and contributed to all this by importing from the mother country of the vines of Hellenic origin.

It was from these vines that the so-called "Krimisa" was introduced, which is still considered the ancestor of the vines currently cultivated. Among the other vines introduced there were also Gaglioppo and Greco Bianco, real backbones of the current production of Cirò.

According to tradition, Krimisa was the wine offered to the winners of the Olympics.

Produced, therefore, since ancient times, Cirò is a wine appreciated not only for its organoleptic characteristics but also for its properties that were even defined as "therapeutic". Historical sources report statements made by respected physicians who stated:

"Cirò is an opulent and majestic tonic for human old age that wants to be crowned with green for years to come" and which defined this wine as nothing less than "a cordial sure for those who want to recover their strength after a long illness".

Of course, these statements derive from an appreciation of a personal nature rather than of actual evidence  scientific but make it clear how much attachment the Calabrian people have always shown towards this excellent product.
